the free MS windows security essentials is for windows xp / vista / 7.
it doesn't seem for server.

my first bad experience with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

I powered on my cn-windows 2003 after a long time of non-use. updated java. then update the malwarebytes' anti-malware to the lastest version and def.
did a scan it warned a comdlg32.dll problem. also a warning about cewmdm.dll.
I did a restart as requested. but the windows keeps restarting and giving me a blue screen.
luckily this computer got two drives. the other drive is loaded with 2008 server trial.
boot the machine in windows 2008, manually renamed windows 2003's comdlg32.dll.
then boot server 2003 again, I can log in now, but there were complaints about the comdlg32.dll.
copy the dll file from servicepack files.
whether this disaster caused by a temp hardware error, I don't know. its a shock.

yes, i am a game addict. bundled games in windows 7, minesweeper seems the same. but the solitarie seems harder than the ones in w3.1x & win 9x, w2k, w-xp.

w7 installation is pretty fast.
w7 easy transfer is good too. it finish 28GB transfer in about 40Min. it transfered the domain profile,local profile etc.

there is a program report after the easy transfer. its said windows movie maker and windows outlook express are not included in this version of windows.

for 3rd party apps, i need adobe reader, flash player, ..

ever remember the user switch feature in windows xp home. you can't do in  XP pro as well. but you can do that in XP pro once it is joined to a domain.

well in Windows vista / 7, you can switch logged on profiles/users even if the PC is joined to the domain.

move the server out of the domain, chaneg server name, run newsid (to rename it).

upgrade a hard drive with sql server db on it

stop all sql services (SQL 2005) in services.msc. use shadow protect do a incremental, use an e-sata bracket to extend x226 servers internal sata connectors. attach Lacie 2BIGTB external drive to the e-sata connection. e-sata cable is different from internal sata cable. restore to drive using shadow protect. it awful slow restoring abour 40GB data to 500 GB hard drive (abour 3.5 hours). no re-sizing is manually needed.
change drive letters as the data drive is not the C: drive. its funny coz its first time a system is running on external hard drive.

its a zyxel 600 adsl router. it looks fine with those LEDs, but the LAN ip is not responding to pings after a while. replace with another one. all good.

Xencenter 5.0 failed to work on my W7 over PPTP connecting to Xen5.0 server. it showed its connected, but no VM showing-up. in contrast w-xp is fine.
