network files access is slow, files slow to open..... windows 2003 file server, an IBM x226.
used taskmgr to monitor the bandwidth usage ... its at 1% of 100Mb.
wondering why, since all PCs in the lan having the same problem, it must be the server.
updating the server and doing ping tests, there were packets losses, high pings to the gateway in a small network!
oh dear, luckily there was a clue in the veritas backup log, indicated second drive was failing which was used for internal backup. the 2nd dirve in x226 was also used for paging. so there was No paging file.
re-set the paging file location solved the problem.
test again on a client PC, network usage can go up to 67~68%.
No more cabling.
