I have just set one of these up with preloaded W2008 Foundation Server. It installs the Video Controller as VGA and I cannot determine how to get better than 1024x768 resolution. There does not seem to be a specific driver for the card and I await a call from HP Support to see if they can resolve.

  3. Hey folks, I'm just wondering if anybody has been able to get a resolution better than 1024x768 on this system under Server 2008. I went through a similar experience with HP support, who don't seem to "get" that it just doesn't work. The standard VGA driver is NOT the right driver to use for this card; the problem is that there doesn't appear to be a driver for this video card/chipset available for Windows 2008 Server, so it defaults to the VGA driver, which is limited as to what it can do. I have a widescreen monitor hooked up to one of these systems and because of this stupid limitation (and HP's refusal to acknowledge that it is a problem), I am using the monitor at 1024x768 (a non-widescreen resolution), which not only doesn't allow proper use of the screen at its full resolution, but also screws up the aspect ratio. Has anybody ever received a satisfactory reply from HP about this? Has anyibody been able to get it to work?

  4. Why don't you pop in a PCIe video card into the PCIe x 16 slot for better video AND supported drivers for your OS? Then you can forget about the crappy onboard video and lack of supported drivers.

  5. hi, same here, although i install the Matrox driver from: http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3577708&swItem=MTX-b3351ce4a91a48a19775c735a3&prodNameId=3577715&swEnvOID=1113&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0

, with correct LCD monitor driver, i am also still cannot get resolution better than 1024, i think that is limited by the video firmware...

  6. Go to the screen resolution page, and click "advanced settings". On the window that pops up, click "List all Modes". There you can select the higher resoluions. However, 32-bit colour cannot be used at resolutions higher than 1024 x 768. Mine is now running at 1280 x 1024 at 16-bit.

  7. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-75852.html

This is the link for working driver (in this case its for W2008 Server R2 64 bit). Its from IBM site for IBM servers but it works for HP systems too. I dont have a suitable monitor to test other resolutions except 1024x768 but hopefully it should work. And the device is no longer listed as a sstandart VGA adapter but it has the correct working driver installed (Matrox G200e server engines)
