salvage my work notebook HP 6715b (since 2006) --- move the hard drive to another HP compaq nc6400
the night before , I clapped the lid of my outdated HP 6715b and went to bed.
in the morning, pushed the button, trying to wake it up, this time, nothing showing on the screen, nothing even after dismantled it
the hard drive is loaded with windows 7 x64 ultimate
first , I did a bios upgrade on the nc6400 with the file on hp site.
pulled out the hard drive and put into another HP compaq nc6400
push the button, blue screen, BSOD 0x0000007B
its about the hard drive storage controller driver (actually its not, as I found out later)
in an effort to inject drivers, I took an in-place image of the hard drive (using storagecraft shadowprotect IT key), and restored the image.
this time, there is no blue screen, bit it crashed to a crash menu, like
put in your windows disc and click repair
iastor.sys corrupted ....
I somehow injected many versions of iastor.sys, still the same error, if I deleted the iastor.sys , I would get the BSOD again.
I do have w7 x64 repair disc, I popped the disc in, and started the repair, ......, no luck.
I do have the original w7 x64 disc, popped disc in, and started the repair, ...., no luck
then in the BIOS, change SATA mode to disabled, change IDE mode from bi-shifted to LBA-assisted.
( I had this kind of issues with HP machines, things like IDE mode, AHCI, UEFI etc, but I thought w7 x64 can handle those, load properly drivers upon detecting new hardware)
then the notebook can start to safe mode and load drivers
interestingly HP does not put any w7 driver for nc6400, compared with the 6715b HP even has UEFI firmware.
there is a w7 x32 bit driver listed in their forum, its a dropbox link. but I couldn't use it as my w7 is x64.
eventually I booted my hard drive to w7 x64 on the nc6400, in the device manager lots of yellow marks.
downloaded various versions of inf update files from intel site.
downloaded vista drivers from HP site, installed and un-installed and installed again,
some issues bugged me, the display was showing as a problem, and the wireless is not showing up. there are also issues with mass storage and simple comms.
eventually loaded the TI drive for the mass storage. disabled / enable the wireless many times to get wireless up and working ( have to re-enter the wireless password). I had this wireless issue before with the 6715b when I updated the OS to w7.
now I got two days to re-activate w7 x64 ultimate
