Exchange 2010 on a windows 2008 keeps rebooting on a Xen 5.5 host
this windows 2008 with Exch2010 is running fine for a number of weeks as a VM inside a Xen 5.5 host.
it started rebooting recently. It appeared related to some windows updates.
upon rebooting, the windows send error report to MS, and check solutions online.
finally it gives a clue about x64 bit cpu clock something, the windows are complaining about device drivers.
think ouside the box, there is another VM running on this host. the performance monitor indicates this XP-VM is using 100% CPU. turning this 100%-cpu-usage XP-VM off helps the other server VM stay alive.

iphone can't sync with Exchange 2010
it keeps asking for password after I made it accepting the self-signed certificate.
the weird error on the server side is
Event ID: 1053
Make sure the user has inherited permission granted to domain\Exchange Servers to allow List, Create child, Delete child of object type "msExchangeActiveSyncDevices" and doesn't have any deny permissions that block such operations.
luckily there is a link here
http://blog.nick.mackechnie.co.nz/post/2009/11/20/Exchange-2010-Active-Sync-Issue.aspx
set the proper inherited permission, all good

assign admin roles to a user in exchange 2010 organization
well, there isn't a exchange delegation wizard, in exchange 2010, didn't see that.
It is all RBAC now.
goto http://servername/ecp to assign roles or additional roles to the stardom. you double click on a role group, something will pop up, and your add someone to the group.
it seems many tools in exchange 2010 are web-based, like mail-tracking,...

outlookanywhere outlook 2010 beta or outlook 2003/2007, does it matter?
quite tricky for me, when I put another test domain on my test box.
outlook20033/outlook2007 threw me an error "The name cannot be matched to a name in the address list".
But in outlook 2010 beta, I can configure outlook anywhere. it seemed working.

Outlook 2010 beta out of office problem with the hosted exchange 2010
for some unknown reason, the outlook 2010 OOF didn't work with the test exchange 2010. OWA's OOF is fine.
OOF is fine with outlook 2003, 2007.
interesting outlook 2010 can show mailing list in GAL. But O2k3 &O2k7 can't, they can show in other address list.

struggling with OAB after autodiscover record added to external DNS
continuing my struggle with OAB. press CTRL+ right-click on the outlook icon on the notification area. click
test email autoconfiguration. there is a response to the autodiscover.externaldomain.com
But there is a warning about the certificate because the cert on the server is not the same name.
No luck, outlook keeps prompting me for username/password, this is for the OAB.
the only progress is I got the address book URL
https://exch.mydomain.com/OAB/ba11614f-4e10-48e6-9872-375008c99cda/
tried to logon manually,.. no luck, keeps asking for u/p.
I wonder I need double check the internal OAB settings according to http://www.shudnow.net/2008/11/18/autodiscover-dns-certificates-and-what-you-need-to-know/

Exchange 2010 outlook anywhere server side setup
Exchange 2010 outlook anywhere server side setup...
I should have posted this earlier. the problem is outlook 2007 cannot connect via outlook anywhere at all.
OWA is fine.
eventually I found in the server log that RPC over HTTPS was not installed.
it is a feature in windows 2008, not being installed by default.

Error message: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WS-Management service cannot process the request. The system load quota of 1000 requests per 2 seconds has been exceeded. Send future requests at a slower rate or raise the system quota.
I followed MSFT - Zhang's instruction
1. make sure IIS WinRM extension is installed
2. open powershell and run command : WinRM Quickconfig
3. Open IIS go to Powershell virtual directory and check that SSL in disabled and authentification is set only to Anonymous
4. Open Windows powershell modules
but I can't do
5. run Remove-PowershellVirtualDirectory command
6. run New-PowershellVirtuallirectory command
those two cmd asking for identity.
anyway, I can open the exchange 2010 EMC now.

Exchange 2010 UM technet lab
Exchange 2010 UM technet lab ...tried twice, first part is fine. But I couldn't finish the phone validation bits.
when I tried to post a feed back, got a internal error 500. the message is error=failed to get device allocation. I wonder real phone device is needed to complete the lab.
anyway, I would not complain since its free. virtual labs have improved lot in the Exchange 2010 series, that may be due to my home DSL upgraded.
