quote as below

What is a Microsoft account?

Microsoft account is your gateway to Microsoft products and services. Log in to Windows, Office 365, Xbox, and Outlook.com with it. Store your files in OneDrive, chat with Skype, and download apps from the Microsoft Store.

You can use your existing Gmail email address when creating a Microsoft account. No need for a new email. Link your Gmail to manage your emails and Microsoft services in one place.

Here’s how to create a Microsoft account with Gmail:

  1. Go to the official Microsoft website.
  2. Click “Sign In” or “Create Account”.
  3. Select “Use Email Address” or “Get New Email”.
  4. Enter your Gmail address. Press “Next”.
  5. Create a strong password.
  6. Provide your name and date of birth.
  7. Complete any verification steps.
  8. Agree to the terms and conditions.

So if you do not have a Microsoft Account yet or want to create a new one here’s how you create it. You can be quite sure that you will have the need for one in the near future (Lifecycle Services aka LCS and Visual Studio Online aka VSO).

  • Go to signup.live.com and fill the fields.
  • You do not necessarily have to use a Microsoft e-mail address like @hotmail.com, @live.com or @outlook.com! There is a link to switch between creating a new e-mail address and using an existing one.
  • Once you send the information you’ll get an e-mail to the address you provided. You need to follow a link in there to verify the address and continue with the process.
  • That’s it! You see the confirmation message in the browser and your Microsoft Account is ready to go!
