here are some notes from the seminar

there is bug with version 4.0.5, problem checking a dirty FAT table; so update it to the latest version as soon as possible

windows vss can only do 1 per hours, shadowprotect vss can do per 15 mins

avoid run those two at the same time, so shadowprotect not on the hour

for performance , use fixed-page file and 4*memory as virtul mem

watch disk queue length, it should be less than 2 per spindle

use separae jobs per volume, but for exchange server, use one jobs for logs/dbs

be carefull with sql maintenance plan, it is a hidden vss on its own

image-manager can be used for verify image and collapsing image, quite intensive cpu / network usage

you can use NAS as IR

which two files shadowprotect do not backup? page file and hibenate file?

to recover 2003 DC, you need edit reg, set USN, set time zone correct

to start cmd do CTRL+Shift+F12 ( this is windows PE)

always do chkdsk

fix drive letter

disable vendor specific services like cpq

check boot configuration


before doing restor, (or HSR), edit disk policy, disk geometry, change track -- sector

restore mbr -- restore original mbr from the image file
restore disk hidden track (s/w license like autocad, sbs 2008 pki)
ShadowControl iFTP Version 5  --- for backup on low latency and 2Mbit link
ShadowControl ShadowStream Server Version 5 for high latency and fat bandwidth, need heaps ports open, better with site-2-site vpn

ShadowControl CMD -- still in early version, like a control panel

WatchDog -- like n-able / kaseya , -- good for monitoring disk events
