attempt to recover a synology DS107e drive

the user said he couldn't access his DS107e drive.

I downloaded the synology assistant, it reported that the device hasn't got firmware.

so I downloaded the firmware, it warned me about wiping the data. but the user wanted the data.

pull out the hard drive from the enclosure. did a brief seagate tools test, it indicated the drive physically seemed fine. I think its quite hot tho.

... sigh ... use a toll called  explorer2fs, no luck

on a windows 2008 PC with sata cable attached, those 2fs tool can't find the drive, windows diskmgmt can't find either.

try a windows 2003 PC with a USB enclosure, the diskmgmt see the drive as unknown, but those 2fs tools can't find anything...
