after failing to connect for hours, I had to enable port 22 outgoing, then I can remotely log onto target server.
if outgoing blocked, you will see un-able to establish ssh tunnel. funny I couldn't see logs in the sonicwall tz-180.

You are correct sir! The R/C connections are brokered through an outbound SSH connection - so your client's firewall definitely needs to allow outbound SSH (port 22) requests.
