a step by step guide to upgrade a windows 2008 x64 to server 2012 R2
w2008 x64 can be upgraded to w2012. so you can upgrade to w2012 , then w2012 R2
the route I have done is upgrade w2008x64 to w2008 R2 x64, then install w2008 R2 SP1, finally install w2012 R2.
in place upgrade is Not recommended.
I am doing this way because I want to see what's it like. it quite complicated than a fresh install.
